Bio-statements for DIPOA Election 2006
Dr. Tom Brennan
703 Huitres St.
Dauphin Island, AL 36528
During my two years as a member of the Board, my chief responsibility has been to manage
communications between the Board and the membership. And while I don’t claim perfection
in that capacity, I do believe communication has improved vastly over what existed with
previous Boards. Those who read email messages, website postings, and the occasional
newsletters are no longer benighted about issues relevant to DIPOA stewardship.
I remain a firm supporter of our three-part framework for the Association’s future:
Dune preservation, small-hotel development, and local control. The Board has no desire
to re-invent the wheel. By borrowing the talents of volunteers available to us, I am
confident the Board will select a model for development that suits the needs of all
members of our Island community. I appreciate your support.
Dr.Tom Brennan received his A.B. degree from Rutgers University in 1960; his M.A. degree
from San Francisco State University in 1964; and his Ph.D. degree from Tulane University
in 1970. He taught literature and writing courses for 32 years before retiring to
Dauphin Island in 1999.
Deborah L. Colburn
805 Infanta Place
Dauphin Island
I relocated to Dauphin Island in December after 12 years as a visitor and property owner
since 2004. I am interested in serving on the Board in order to promote balanced growth,
appropriate economic development and environmental protection while ensuring the current
spirit of the Island. I have over 20 years experience in local and state government,
organizational administration, strategic planning, grant writing, and natural resource
protection. This includes 6 years as a State legislator specializing in wetlands management,
shore land protection, public access and the public trust, and the management of recreational
resources. I also have served as a local conservation commissioner for 6 years.
I hold a Bachelor’s in Sociology from Bowdoin College and Master of Public Administration
from the University of New Hampshire. I support the development of a long range plan
for DIPOA’s assets that includes professional management of its valuable resources
balanced with the maintenance of community character. I support the current initiative
to attract a hotel to the golf course while maintaining the dunes and beach access.
Dauphin Island is special in that we are a true community and care needs to be taken
to keep it that way. I appreciate your support.

I am presently serving on the DIPOA Board of Directors. In addition, I serve as Chairman,
DIPOA Berm Fund 2006, as an active member of the DIPOA Architectural Control Committee, and
member of the DI Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors.
My focus as a DIPOA Board member includes: (1) Protecting the property we own in common against
large development, (2) Ensuring DIPOA financial stability, (3) Improving golf course playability
by developing a long range plan, (4) Representing you the property owners and (5) Encouraging
open dialogue.
As a full-time Dauphin Island resident and Island business owner, I am truly committed to
represent all property owners and foresee a bright future for our POA.
As a retired U.S. Coast Guard officer, aviator, businessman, and a systems engineer/analyst,
I have the background, education, professional experience, Island involvement, and sincere
desire to continue serving as a DIPOA Board Member. I request your VOTE for
DAVID CONNOLLY in the May 2006 elections.
Phillip Fusilier, M.D.
1001 Monberaut Place
Dauphin Island, Alabama 36528
Dauphin Island first came into my life in 1988 with the purchase of a home on the west end,
I sold that place after 10 years but I continued to return, and today live happily on the
east end. I retired from general surgery in 2002 after 30 years of practice in New Orleans.
In October 2005 I was appointed to fill a vacancy on the board and within a short period
of time felt right at home, much in the same way I feel about living on the island.
I stand firmly behind recent proposals from the board and approved by the members present
at our public meeting concerning the golf course property and the west-end beaches.
As a member of the board I have contributed to critical and focused deliberations on
all matters of concern to the DIPOA. Following resignation of the former secretary,
I was elected by the board to serve in that capacity and have worked to provide concise,
clear minutes accurately reflecting the proceedings of the board.
It is my desire to continue as an elected member of the DIPOA board and continue
the work necessary to keep Dauphin Island the special place we all love and enjoy!

Mobile, AL 36609
My husband Kirk, and myself are lifetime residents of Mobile and, in fact, our families
have been Mobile residents for many generations. My family and I have enjoyed a second
home on Dauphin Island, currently 914 Cadillac Avenue, since the late 1950’s. My children
are all Mobile residents. Doyle (Lori) Taylor, Margie (Billy) Givens, Chris (Gary) Grove and
Sky Taylor grew up spending their summers, weekends and holidays playing and working
on the Island and now share that pleasure with their children, my eleven grandchildren.
Sky is a full-time resident of Dauphin Island, and Doyle and Chris have second homes
on Dauphin Island. Along with spending time with my family, I enjoy Bridge, Tennis,
painting and working on my family’s history.
I graduated from Murphy High School, attended Spring Hill College and the University
of South Alabama, as well as receiving my Alabama Appraiser Certification through
Auburn University. Prior to employment and retirement from Mobile County as a Certified
Real Estate Appraiser, I was a real estate agent and broker. I previously and currently
serve on the Architectural Committee of the P.O.A. I have been associated with numerous
civic, social and sporting organizations.
